Only Founders Can Completely Understand Other Founders
Making your first website from scratch, finding manufacturers, working with freelancers, creating a startup on a hackathon, bootstrapping, getting the first investment round – and for us, it’s personal.
2013 – Dennis started the eShop ‘Le Petit Jardin’ with his wife, Margot, selling mini garden kits from a Japanese design brand, growing it into a vast, curated collection of design-led goods and brands for the home, of both UK and European design. A website is created from a template. While they are finding their first suppliers, stock and logistic managers, Dennis starts working with marketing freelancers. However, he is not satisfied with the quality and so learns SEO and how to launch Google Ads by himself. At the end of the year, the website gets onto the first page of Google results for searches on presents and gifts.
2014 – The website is migrated to a custom-built platform, launching production of their own handmade wooden products. They establish working with local journalists as well as mass media and automate receiving orders, processing and goods dispatch. Several purchase offers are received, of which one is accepted.

Dennis’ Story — Startup Founder (2016-2020)
2016 – Dennis exits from the industrial eCommerce platform and joins the IT startup Hackaton - armed only with his laptop and a sleeping bag — to challenge himself to create something with truly international influence. He dreams of an AI marketing assistant that will help non-professionals with Google Ads. They release an MVP chatbot right before the New Year.
2017 — Smartsub is started, getting its first 100 users. The death valley curve, bootstrapping and no money to fill up the car all follow. Applications to startup accelerators result in either silence or refusals, but the decision to see it through to the bitter-end results in victory in a startup competition! Getting into the Top 10 Startup Wise Guys accelerator earns the first investment of €20k. The startup roadmap appears for the next investment round.

2018 – The idea of the chatbot fails after several tests in the American market, and a period of finding other solutions for web development follows. What comes next is pitching to the founder of the biggest website builder platform in central and eastern Europe, and getting a soft commitment for a white-label integration with the Ads service. An invitation is received from the investment fund to apply for the Google for Startups Campus in Warsaw, Poland.
2019 – Dennis won the startup competition in the Google Campus, and was then invited to participate in the 6-month programme. The Smartsub Google Ads solution launches advertising with an easy 5-step flow and manages it on-the-go with optimisation scoring. AI solution is named among the Top 10 MarTech Startups of central Europe and wins the €50k Poland prize.
2020 – Six months after the end of the programme, Google launches the improvements, and millions of users benefit from the easy launch and management of Google Ads. Dennis is granted a Tier-1 Exceptional Tech Talent visa for the UK. He starts to mentor software startups and eCommerce brands and helps make revenue growth with his digital marketing team.

“I met Dennis and his Google team, when they pitched their startup Smartsub. We accepted them to our accelerator program in 2017, Batch 9 and they successfully passed through it. Within a short period of time they managed to develop MVP of their product, design and implement go-to-market strategy launching the product on the US market. Their broad digital business experience and data-driven approach allowed them to make things done.”
